What group discounts and package options are available?

Tourist groups visiting Ähtäri Zoo can take advantage of several package options tailored to enhance the group experience. The most popular option is the comprehensive Ähtäri Zoo package, which combines multiple services for a complete Finnish nature experience.

This all-inclusive package offers accommodation at Hotel Mesikämmen, zoo admission tickets valid for two consecutive days, and access to both the zoo and the Farm animal area. Additionally, package guests enjoy evening swimming sessions at the new Loiske swimming pool and use of the gym facilities.

Group organisers benefit from simplified booking processes, with all tickets available upon arrival at the hotel reception. This means your group can begin exploring immediately upon arrival without waiting in queues.

For groups with specific interests, we offer seasonal packages that highlight particular aspects of the zoo experience, such as winter wildlife observation or summer animal activity periods when many species are most active.

Group rates apply to organised parties of 15 or more visitors, with complimentary entry typically provided for tour guides and bus drivers accompanying the group, though this should be confirmed when booking.

How can tourist groups book guided tours and educational experiences?

Tourist groups can easily book guided tours and educational experiences at Ähtäri Zoo through our dedicated group booking service. To arrange these specialised experiences, groups should contact us at least two weeks in advance, though booking earlier is recommended during peak seasons (June-August).

We offer a variety of guided tour options tailored to different interests and age groups. Our standard guided tours last approximately 1-1.5 hours and provide fascinating insights into the animals’ lives, conservation status, and the zoo’s contribution to protecting endangered species. These tours can be conducted in Finnish, English, Swedish, and Russian, with other languages potentially available upon special request.

Animal feeding sessions and guided presentations offer particularly memorable experiences, allowing groups to observe natural behaviours while learning from expert keepers. During summer months, many of these sessions are included in the admission price, with a published schedule available on arrival.

For educational groups, we offer tailored programmes focusing on conservation, Finnish wildlife, or sustainability topics. These interactive sessions can be adapted to various educational levels, from primary school children to university students and special interest adult groups.

Booking a guided experience is straightforward through our online form or by contacting our group sales team directly. When booking, please specify your group size, preferred language, any mobility considerations, and special areas of interest to help us prepare the most suitable experience for your group.

What dining and catering options are offered for groups?

Ähtäri Zoo provides several dining and catering solutions specifically designed for tourist groups. These options ensure your group can enjoy refreshments and meals conveniently during their visit to the zoo.

The primary dining venue, Zoo Deli & Café, offers dedicated seating areas for pre-booked groups. This café serves a selection of Finnish specialties alongside international options, with the capability to accommodate dietary requirements when notified in advance. During summer months, Kaakkolammen Café provides an additional option with beautiful lake views.

For groups of 20 or more, we offer pre-ordered meal packages that can be tailored to your preferences and budget. These typically include a main course, salad, bread, and beverages, with options ranging from casual buffets to more formal seated meals.

If your group prefers a more casual approach, designated picnic areas are available throughout the zoo where groups can enjoy packed lunches. These areas feature covered seating, waste facilities, and hand-washing stations.

For special occasions or larger groups, full catering services can be arranged with advanced booking. Our catering team can create memorable dining experiences, from Finnish wilderness-themed buffets to seasonal celebration menus, enhancing your group’s visit with authentic local flavours.

It’s recommended to book group dining at least one week in advance, particularly during busy summer months, to ensure availability and smooth service for your party.

What accommodation possibilities exist for overnight tourist groups?

Overnight tourist groups visiting Ähtäri Zoo have excellent accommodation options that complement the zoo experience. The primary accommodation for groups is Hotel Mesikämmen, conveniently located within walking distance of the zoo entrance.

Hotel Mesikämmen offers group-friendly facilities with rooms that can accommodate various party sizes, from standard doubles to family rooms and even connecting room options for larger groups. The hotel features an impressive design partially built into natural bedrock, providing a unique Finnish architectural experience while blending with the surrounding nature.

Groups booking the Ähtäri Zoo accommodation package receive zoo tickets valid for two consecutive days, evening access to the Loiske swimming pool, and use of gym facilities. This arrangement allows groups to explore the zoo at a relaxed pace and enjoy additional activities during their stay.

For groups seeking alternative accommodations, we can recommend several partner establishments nearby, ranging from wilderness cabins to holiday apartments, all within easy driving distance of the zoo.

Tourist groups can enhance their overnight experience with various activities available on-site or nearby, including bowling at the hotel, seasonal nature excursions, and an 18-hole golf course within walking distance. During winter months, cross-country skiing and other winter activities can be arranged, while summer offers hiking on forest trails.

Group accommodation should be booked well in advance, particularly for visits during Finnish holiday periods or summer months (June-August) when demand is highest.
