Northern Hawk-Owl
Surnia ulula
Owls are most active usually at night, after darkness has fallen. The exception that proves the rule is the northern hawk-owl, which is diurnal and active during the day. These birds stalk their land-roaming prey from the tops of spruce trees or from a lookout that stands higher than the surrounding area.
Conservation status
LC stands for “least concern.” The species is well-known, and the population is abundant or stable.
